HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
This weekend workshop is designed to support the student to understand
the principles and practice of designing and constructing healthy
homes. The intention is to save you time and money when you are
designing your own home with an architect or builder. Join us for
simple theory and hands on practical action. Students have the
opportunity to work with experienced designers during the course to
develop their own house plans. An optional consultation and site visit
is possible at further cost.

All course costs operate on the Sliding Scale which is income dependant; please pay what you can afford. Discounts are offered for couples. Scholarships are available for low-income. This course is designed to support the student to develop basic
skills of designing an eco home. You will have the opportunity to;
Understand ecological building philosophy and concepts.
Learn how to locate your home on the site and to arrange the space for energy efficiency.
Learn how to arrange the internal spaces of your home for passive solar heating.
Explore various materials for your home and to make a selection of the most appropriate for you and your site.
Explore various systems for energy and water and to integrate them into your design.

Almost all of our Workshops start at 9:00am on Saturday and finish at 6:00pm on Sunday.
El Manzano is children and family friendly! While we know that
students are easily distracted from intensive study by their children
we also know that kids can gain a lot from the interactions on a
course. Please contact us if you want to bring your family for the

and from El Manzano. The best option is to catch a lift with another
student coming from your area and to share costs. The bus arrives at
Cruce de Cabrero regularly where we can pick you up, but you need to
plan ahead because we will only do one trip per day.
Students will have the opportunity to work with experienced Designers
and Gardeners during the course, and to get one on one design support
before or after on their own site. We charge separately for this
