Ecoescuela El Manzano abre sus puertas todos los primeros domingos de cada mes, para compartir experiencia y vivenciar junto a los interesados un día de campo, en este inspirador lugar. Ecoescuela se desarrolla desde el Fundo y Reserva El Manzano, un campo donde día a día se trabaja con Permacultura.
Cuantas hortalizas sabes sembrar? 1, 3, 7…?, como se hace un compost?, como manejas tus desechos?, cuantas frutas comes de tus propios árboles? ….por que se nos ha olvidado lo esencial para vivir?
Este pasado verano se realizó el primer Curso Completo de Permacultura para niños (CCPeNi), en forma paralela al Curso Certificado de Diseño de Permacultura (CDP) en Ecoescuela El Manzano. El taller se realizó entre el 17de febrero del 2009 al 1 de marzo del 2009 en la escuela básica G-1110 de El Manzano, Cabrero.
El objetivo inicial fue crear un taller paralelo al CDP para adultos, que permitiera la asistencia de familias y potenciara el aprendizaje en conjunto pero con actividades específicas de acuerdo a las edades. Bienvenidas las familias!! Este curso además convocó a niños entre 2 y 15 años habitantes de la Villa El Manzano, que durante dos semanas disfrutaron de las clases impartidas por Oriana y Claudio.
Agroforestería y Reparación Biorregional son las “estrellas nortinas” del trabajo de el asociado de Universidad Gaia Connor Stedman. A través de sus reflexiones, viajes y estudios él ha elaborado una propuesta sobre una forma óptima para crear y mantener un proyecto de Agroforestería. Además, hace poco obtuvo su primer sitio de experimentación en Massachusesetts. Pero volvamos a los dos temas compuestos de esta sección. No sé si es sólo problema mío, pero considero que estos no son temas que fácilmente se puede reducir a una definición de una frase. ¿Entonces cómo explicar la importancia de estos temas? Connor los explica en términos de “Especies claves”.

to “unleash” by engaging with the broader community in creating a

Speaking with founder and director Ben Jones via skype from the VISFI Community Centre, over a consistent hum and buzz of human activity, there was a definite sense of VISFI as a bustling group of world changers with plenty of knowledge and enthusiasm to share!
VISFI is in the process of becoming Gaia U’s Regional Center for the Caribbean. For students looking to complete their Permaculture Design Certificates before their Gaia Orientation, VISFI will be offering a PDC course in November-a great excuse to head for the islands a bit early!
Gaia University graduate Ian Nigh, highlighted in our last newsletter , has been working on initiatives for “bridging epistemologies,” supporting the recognition of traditional knowledge and finding points of collaboration between traditional forms of knowledge and western science. His work is focused in Northern Australia as consultant for the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies Traditional Knowledge Initiative (UNU- IAS- TKI).
As of 2010 Gaia University will be offering a Doctoral program!
The program will be open to all Associates who have completed a Masters level degree with Gaia U. Students holding Masters degrees from other Universities are equally welcome to apply, and will be required to complete one-year in a post-graduate program with Gaia University. If you don’t have a Masters degree, but know you’d like to participate in Gaia U’s Doctoral Program, it would be a good time to apply for a Masters degree with us.
