Plants: For Mediterranean Climates

A large part of central Chile from the Biobio River to north of Santiago is described as a Mediterranean Climate, or more precisely Chilean Matorral. We can use these unique conditions to mimic plant and animal strategies to design and create living landscapes that yield an abundance of goodness.

The Mediterranean manifests around the world in Chile, the ´´Mediterranean´´, California, South Africa and Australia. If you look at this link to Biomes you can see where the Mediterranean fits in.

Plants: for Your Food Forest & Garden in Chile

HOW DO I CHOOSE PLANTS FOR MY GARDEN

When selecting plant and animal species for our Permaculture landscapes a good place to start is by looking at local climate and vegetation patterns to guide our decision-making process.

Chile is a diverse and complex landscape, from the driest in the world, to some of the coldest and wettest places. Whichever region of Chile you live in, you will find a set of specific climatic factors that provide opportunities and limitations on what plants will produce.

Plants: for Temperate to Subtropical Sites

SELECION DE PLANTAS TEMPLADO

Here we look at the Temperate zones of Chile. Have a look at this map to see where the global Temperate areas are. The southern temperate zone extends from the Tropic of Capricorn (just north of Antofogasta)  to the Antarctic Circle (at approximately 66.5 degrees south latitude) wee south of Chile.

These are the relatively cold and humid climates. They differ from drylands – where annual precipitation exceeds evaporation and differ from the tropics – with the presence of frosts. Temperate includes Mediterranean and polewards to the boreal forests.

News: Gaia U explores being a Re-Evaluation Counseling Community

TACKLING THE PATRIX

Gaia University has recently been authorized to develop a non-geographical Re-Evaluation Counseling (RC) community within its network.  This experimental project offers Gaia University associates access to a unique tool with which to explore and heal themselves, their communities, and the world at large, becoming more effective in the world change work in which they are engaged.   Re-Evaluation Counseling’s global network is generally based on geographic boundaries.  However, given the pioneering work of Gaia U in often remote locations and the challenges its international associates face in finding local RC Fundamentals courses, RC International has decided to allow courses to be offered in conjunction with Gaia U Orientation programs.
