Accreditation
The Permaculture Design Certificate course is an
internationally-recognized programme resulting in a Permaculture Design
Certificate. It provides an introduction to permaculture design as set
forth by Bill Mollison, reframed by David Holmgren, and modified by 7
years of teaching experience in New Zealand & Chile using a wide
range of best practice from teachers around the world.
"Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our greatest fear
is that we are powerful beyond measure" (Marianne Williamson)
Through the Permaculture Diploma system graduates have the opportunity
to be supported and guided to develop an action plan for lifelong action
learning as part of a global network of educators and regenerative
design professionals.
No previous experience required. Discover strategies for sustainable
systems and a wide range of situations, climates and locations.
Further Learning
Students who complete the design course are entitled to apply for the
International Diploma in Permaculture Design offered by El Manzano &
accredited by Gaia University. Associates entering the diploma
programmes will be supported to develop a life long learning pathway
that enables them to develop the competencies of regenerative design as
part of an international learning community.
The facilitation team from El Manzano are part of an interdisciplinary
network of people from many sectors throughout Chile, who have come
together to find solutions to the economic, environmental and social
time in Latin America and the world.
.
This time the team includes;
Grifen Hope: has extensive experience in natural resource
management, and has designed and implemented various systems for
intensive food production in New Zealand and Chile. An experienced
educator of youth and adults, has facilitated many seminars, workshops
and courses on the theory and practice of sustainable living. These
include courses in Permaculture Design Certificate along with some of
the most experienced teachers of permaculture design in the world (Joe
Polaischer, Geoff Lawton, Darren Doherty, Robina McCurdy and many more).
In these dark times, Grifen maintains a fundamental belief that all
change, including large and powerful changes begin in simple
conversations ... in design, the way we co-create our world.

About El Manzano & how to get there
El Manzano is a regional centre of an international learning community, a
campus of regenerative design, connected to the living University of
Gaia.
Based on a 120 hectare organic farm with a community of 80 people, El
Manzano is a Transition Town, Permaculture Research Centre, and almost
Ecovillage Training Centre where you can find world class transformative
and action learning experiences.
The farm is being developed as a living demonstration of regenerative
techniques in landscape restoration, regenerative agriculture, and a
heal;thy built environment. This is an intensive and productive
permaculture farm, and features many examples of best-practice for
farming and resilient living.
The site includes fruit and berry orchards, extensive gardens and
broadacre cultivation, forestry, bioconstruction, appropriate technology
for water and energy. The homes in El Manzano present a range of
construction techniques, and if seeing is believing, then it represents a
living example of how you can do it for yourself.
Transport
El Manzano is a little off the beaten track, just far enough. We are very easy to find. Please look at the map here.
By Bus: There are daily bus services from Santiago and anywhere else in
Chile to the Terminal de buses en Cabrero. From Cabrero you can get to
El Manzano by Taxi.
By Air: there are daily air services to the main city in BioBio of
Concepcion. From Concepcion you can get to Cabrero by bus, and then to
El Manzano by Taxi.
By Train: There is a daily service between Santiago and Chillan. From
Chillan you can get to Cabrero by bus, and then to El Manzano by taxi.
By Car: The directions below are very accurate but some of the roads are
poorly signposted and easy to miss. To calculate travel times and to
print a detailed map of your trip see the map here.
Children
We welcome families and children!!! We recognise that childrencan be a distracting factor for adults in transfromative leanring experiences. We also realise that the interaction between adults and children can be a very rich experience during the design course. For this reason we run a parallel permaculture program for chldren with Oriana Villaroel of the Instituto Chileno de Permacultura.
For more information follow the link above or contact carolina.
What to Bring
Bring
